There is no doubt that the Ecurie Ecosse transporter, financed by the Ecurie Ecosse Association and built nearly fifty years has reached iconic status alongside the famous 1955 Mercedes Benz high speed transporter and the Ferrari Bartoletti-bodied transporters of the same period.

The Spark division of Minimax Import and Export Company in Macau have now produced a truly stunning 1/43rd scale model of the transporter.

The first company to produce a scale model of the Ecosse Transporter was Corgi Toys and today good examples of this early 1960’s model are fetching eye-watering prices. All I can say is that this new model knocks the original Corgi model into a cocked hat. Mind you it is also considerably more expensive at around ’58.

It is quite remarkable the sheer quality of modern die-cast modelling and this Spark Ecosse Transporter is one of the finest models I have seen for the price. It comes in a thick transparent plastic box, the transporter being screwed down on a black plate with ‘ Ecurie Ecosse Team Transporter 1959’ etched on the base. This is not a toy- the box states that it should not be given to children under 14 – but if you were an indulgent parent you could unscrew the actual transporter from its base and watch it being trashed. However, most people will want to display it as it is. The detailing includes windscreen wipers, door handles, lights, loading rails and beautifully detailed wheels and tyres.

It carries the Commer badge on the front with an Ecurie Ecosse shield and the correct registration number VSG7.

The transporter is available from most of the major motoring model shops but is manufactured by Spark. (Web site www.sparkmodel.com)
