Question
Our local paper has published photos of a race meet circa 1955-ish with a D? Type jag and a bus in the background. Wondering if it's a fore-runner of the EE Transporter as there seems to be Ecurie Ecosse on the side. If it isn't, has any one any info at all. I'm from Peterhead so it might have been taken at Crimond or it might have been a local on an excursion somewhere else and took a photo

Answer:
Dear Fred
Your photos are very interesting . They were certainly taken at Crimond. The pic showing the D-type Jaguar in the foreground was taken in the autumn of 1956 at Crimond. It was raced by a young driver called Bill Smith who was born in Scotland but lived in Essex. He sadly was killed about a month later in Ireland.
This is the other Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar the team raced at the same meeting and was driven by John Lawrence from Cullen in Aberdeenshire. You are correct in that the old Albion bus is in the background. The Ecurie Ecosse transporter was not built until a few years later.
This last photo is one of the great Bob McIntyre who was a multiple world motorcycle champion and raced for Gilera,Norton and Honda. He was the first person to lap the Isle of Man at an average speed of 100 mph but was most famouse in Scotland for his success with Joe Potts’ Manx Nortons. Joe also helped Ecurie Ecosse on many occasions when developing cars.
