Andrew Smith collects his award.

Smith Wins Masters Title

Chris Tate, who runs the Masters Historic Racing series of events arranged a presentation of their annual awards on January 17 but unlike most awards where points are awarded on this occasion all the various drivers in the Masters series of events were asked to vote for their favourite driver in each of the various classes. They had to take into consideration driving skill, presentation, sporting behaviour and the correct spirit so, * surprisingly,Andrew Smith, who has raced in the Ecurie Ecosse colours in the past two years, was named the World Sportscar Masters Driver of the Year.

The citation read:

"....to the rapid and versatile Scotsman Andrew Smith, who enjoyed a superb season in his Lola T70.Andrew’s versatility was highlighted by him racing Jaguar E-types, Lola T70’s and a Formula 1 Hesketh in 2008"

The 2009 Masters Historic Racing season starts at Snetterton on March 21 with the main Masters series of races starting at Donington Park on May 9.

*Only joking Andrew: the award could not have gone to a better guy.
